What can SBA loan money be used for?

SBA loan money can be used for almost any legitimate business purpose: working capital, equipment, inventory, real estate, business acquisitions, and refinancing existing business debt, with the exact list depending on which SBA program you use. The 7(a) is the flexible one; the 504 is restricted to fixed assets. Using the wrong program for your purpose means a denied application and weeks lost. Quordx Capital matches your specific use of funds to SBA lenders in its network that finance exactly that, so the application you submit is the right one.

Allowed uses by SBA program

SBA 7(a): (up to $5M) is the general-purpose workhorse. Eligible uses include working capital, purchasing equipment or inventory, buying or improving commercial real estate, acquiring an existing business, funding a startup, and refinancing qualifying business debt. SBA 504 (up to $5 million, more for certain manufacturing and energy projects) is narrower: it funds fixed assets (land or buildings, ground-up construction, major renovations, heavy machinery) through a CDC paired with a bank. It cannot be used for working capital or inventory. SBA Express (up to $500K) mirrors 7(a) uses with a faster SBA response, though the lender sets the timeline. What SBA money can't do: fund passive investment or speculation, or be lent onward. And since a May 2026 rule (effective July 2026), eligible borrowers can combine 7(a) and 504 for up to $10M in cumulative SBA exposure.

Matching the program to your purpose

SBA 7(a): Best for mixed uses: an acquisition plus working capital, or equipment plus renovation, in one loan.

SBA 504: Best for buying your building or major equipment. Rates are fixed, and SBA publishes 504 rates monthly.

SBA Express: Best when you need SBA pricing on up to $500K and want a faster answer.

How Quordx Capital Works

Tell Quordx Capital what the money is for in one short application, roughly 10 minutes. The platform's AI weighs your use of funds, financials, and credit, then ranks 3-7 best-fit lenders from a 50+ lender network by approval probability. You'll typically hear back from lenders in 24-48 hours; SBA deals take longer to close than conventional loans, and Quordx Capital tells you that upfront.

What to Expect

The main worry here is eligibility, whether your intended use qualifies. Quordx Capital reviews that before anything is submitted, and if your purpose doesn't fit SBA rules, you'll be pointed to a conventional product that does fit instead of being strung along. Everything is free to you, every term is disclosed, and asking costs nothing.
