What documents do I need for a business loan?

For most business loans, you need five things: 3-6 months of business bank statements, your most recent business tax return, a government-issued ID, your business entity documents, and a voided business check. Larger requests and SBA loans add a P&L and balance sheet. That's it: far less than most owners fear, and assembling it takes an afternoon, not a week. Incomplete files are one of the most common reasons applications stall, so getting this right up front is the cheapest speed boost available. With Quordx Capital, you upload everything once and it travels with your application to every matched lender.

The Document Checklist, Explained

Business bank statements (3-6 months): The single most important item. Lenders read deposits to verify revenue, check average balances, and spot red flags like negative days or existing daily debits.

Most recent business tax return(s): Confirms income at the IRS level and shows the business's full-year picture. Larger loans may want two years.

Government-issued ID: Verifies you're you: standard fraud prevention.

Business entity documents: Articles of organization or incorporation, proving the business legally exists and you're authorized to borrow for it.

Voided business check: Confirms the account that receives funds and handles repayment.

For larger or SBA deals: add a profit & loss statement and balance sheet, and for SBA expect a deeper package: the trade for rates currently around 10.5%-14% on 7(a) loans is more paperwork and a longer timeline.

Pull statements as PDFs from your online banking, grab last year's return, and you're 80% done.

Where Those Documents Can Take You

Working capital loans: bank statements do most of the talking; minimal extra paperwork. Best for fast operational funding.

Business term loans: the standard checklist above, sometimes plus financials for $250K+ requests. Best for planned investments.

Business lines of credit: similar light documentation, with periodic refreshes as you draw. Best for ongoing flexibility.

SBA loans: the fullest package: tax returns, P&L, balance sheet, and a business plan for startups. Best when lowest cost justifies the prep.
