What is venture debt and how does it work?

Venture debt is a loan built for startups that have raised investor capital or show a strong revenue trajectory, typically $500K to $5M+, letting founders extend runway and fund growth without selling more equity. It works because the lender underwrites your investors and momentum rather than the profitability traditional banks demand. For a fast-growing company, the alternative is dilution: raising another equity round earlier than you'd like, at a valuation you've outgrown by the time it closes. Quordx Capital matches venture-stage companies with venture debt lenders from its 50+ lender network through one free application.

How venture debt works

Traditional lenders want years of profits; venture debt lenders look instead at the strength of your investor backing, your cash position, and your revenue growth curve. The classic timing is alongside or shortly after an equity round: the fresh capital and investor validation are exactly what these lenders underwrite. Structurally, venture debt is a term loan, often paired with warrants (a small right for the lender to buy equity later) as part of the lender's return. The strategic math is what makes it popular: borrowing $2M as debt costs interest and modest warrant dilution, while raising that $2M as equity at an early-stage valuation can cost a meaningfully larger ownership stake forever. Founders typically use venture debt to stretch runway between rounds, fund growth spending with known payback, or bridge to a milestone that justifies a better valuation. The honest caveats: it's still debt, payments come due whether growth cooperates or not, and it's a poor fit for companies without investor backing or real revenue trajectory.

Funding options for venture-stage companies

Venture debt: Typically $500K-$5M+ for startups with investor backing or strong revenue growth. Best for extending runway and delaying dilution between equity rounds.

A/R financing / invoice factoring: Advances of 70-90% of invoice value, underwritten on your customers. Best for B2B startups with enterprise receivables and lumpy cash flow.

Equipment financing: $5K-$5M+, secured by the asset. Best for hardware, lab, or infrastructure spend: keep venture debt capacity for growth instead.

How Quordx Capital Works

Submit one application in roughly 5 minutes with your financials: bank statements, tax returns, and P&L for deals at this scale. Quordx Capital's matching process reads your stage, backing, and trajectory, then connects you with 3-7 lenders from the 50+ network whose mandates actually cover venture-stage credit. Initial lender interest typically surfaces within 24-48 hours; larger facilities then move through fuller diligence.

What to Expect

Venture debt diligence is more involved than a standard small business loan: expect lenders to examine your burn, runway, and cap table, and to negotiate warrant coverage. Quordx Capital's role is making sure those conversations happen with right-fit lenders and that every term, fee, and warrant provision is disclosed plainly. If venture debt isn't the right instrument for your stage, you'll hear that directly. Matching is free, with no fees to your company and no obligation.
